Danzan-Ryū Jujitsu – The Art of Adaptability

Welcome to Danzan-Ryū Jujitsu

Danzan-Ryū Jujitsu is a practical and adaptive martial art developed by Professor Seishiro Henry Okazaki in the early twentieth century. Drawing from traditional Japanese jujutsu and informed by Western physical education and Hawaiian healing arts, this system offers a complete method of self defense and personal development.

At Daibudō Kodenkan Matsuno Kenshūkai in Tucson, we teach Danzan-Ryū Jujitsu as it was intended. Training emphasizes adaptability, control, and responsibility in both technique and character.

A Legacy of Respect and Discipline

Danzan-Ryū Jujitsu training develops practical skill while reinforcing values that guide safe and respectful practice. Students learn to apply technique with control, awareness, and consideration for their training partners.

Instruction emphasizes mutual respect, perseverance, humility, and personal accountability. These principles form the foundation of training and guide progress at every level.

What You Will Learn

Students training in Danzan-Ryū Jujitsu develop a broad range of skills through structured practice, including:

  • Ukemi, or safe falling and rolling
  • Standing and ground based self defense
  • Throwing techniques and joint locks
  • Pins, holds, and restraint methods
  • Kata and freeform application through randori

Training progresses step by step, allowing students to build confidence and competence before advancing to more complex material.

Classes for All Ages

Danzan-Ryū Jujitsu classes are open to youth and adults of all experience levels. Beginners are welcome, and no prior martial arts training is required. Instruction meets students where they are while encouraging steady progress over time.

Classes focus on safety, proper mechanics, and long term development rather than speed of advancement.

Our Lineage

Daibudō Kodenkan Matsuno Kenshūkai honors the teachings of Professor Okazaki and maintains strong roots through the Kodenkan Yudanshakai. Our direct connection to the Holck Family, students of Professor Okazaki, has played an important role in preserving Danzan-Ryū Jujitsu in its original spirit.

Through this lineage, we continue to share Danzan-Ryū Jujitsu with integrity, tradition, and purpose.
